The Warriors (5-3 overall/4-0 district) completed their
district schedule Tuesday night with an emphatic, 17-5, victory over rival
Olympia. The win marked the
third-straight season that the Warriors have finished undefeated in
regular-season district play.
Bailey Sarp's return to full-game action saw the junior attackman score five goals. |
The WO offense was bolstered by the return of junior
attackman Bailey Sarp, who played his first full game of the season after
recovering from pre-season surgery. Sarp
finished the district clash with a game-high five goals. Fellow attackman, senior Connor McElvaney,
added four goals of his own plus assisted one of Sarp’s goals.
It is no secrete that the Warriors have been riddled with
injuries throughout the season and many roster changes have been made to keep
the squad moving forward. One benefit
has been the large amount of game time a trio of freshmen have been getting
playing together on their own midfield line.
Tuesday night’s contest became a de facto “coming out party” for the
freshmen middies as their line contributed 11 points on the evening.
Zach Malaussena led the freshman movement, scoring twice and
assisting on four other goals. He also
added game-highs in ground balls (10) and face-off wins (11). Danny Luette and Justin Bittenbender each
scored once, assisting in each other’s goals.
Bittenbender’s goal was the first of his varsity career. Luette also assisted one of Malaussena’s
goals.
The Warriors’ defense was stingy throughout the game, never
allowing the Titans to get comfortable on offense. Seniors Trenton McGee and Trevor Peters
locked down the Titans, while senior goalie Tyler Barreto recorded 10 saves in
the victory.
The Warriors next travel to Lake Nona for a varsity match-up
against the Lions at 6pm.
