Nick Poidomani is now the career leader in points at WOHS. |
In total, six players scored goals in the game for the Warriors. Senior attackman Connor McElvaney led WO in goals in the victory, recording five for the night. Fellow senior Logan Dyer led the midfield unit with three goals and two assists.
Senior goalie Tyler Barreto started in the cage and held Lake Minneola to zero goals in the first half before being replaced by junior Garrett Burns in the second half. The goalies saw little action thanks to a strong defensive presence from seniors Trenton McGee and Trevor Peters, along with junior Matt Cohn. All three defensive players recorded four ground balls.
The Warriors took a quick lead from the start when freshman Zach Malaussena won the opening face-off and scored his first career goal. WO held a 2-0 lead after the first quarter and was up 6-0 at halftime. West Orange turned up the pressure in the second half, outscoring Lake Minneola 11-1 to end the game.
The Warriors will host Boone on Thursday, Feb. 20. The JV team will play at 6pm, followed by the varsity teams playing at 7:30.
