Wednesday night brought district opponent Lake Minneola to
the Warriors’ home turf. The Hawks sported a 7-1 record entering the evening
and posed a viable threat to West Orange’s undefeated season. However, the Warriors
came out focused and determined from the start and rocked the Hawks to the tune
of a 26-4 victory.
West Orange jumped out hot right out of the gate, dominating
possession and offensive opportunities. By the time the horn sounded the end of
the first quarter, the Warriors held an impressive 10-1 lead. The Warriors
midfield dropped six of those first 10 goals, with three coming from junior
Nick Witten, two from senior Justin Bittenbender and one from senior Daniel
Luette.
In total, 10 Warriors cranked in goals in the victory. The
offense was backed once again by another dominate performance by the defense,
which held the Hawks to its lowest scoring output of the year. Senior close-D
Alex Kouchalakos set the tone with four caused turnovers.
Junior attackman Mikey Berkman made school history during
the win as his three assists on the evening brought his season total to 55,
passing the previous school record of 53 set by 2014 grad Nick Poidomani.
The Warriors take their 10-0 record against West Metro
Conference rival Dr. Phillips on Friday night at home at 7:30pm.
