The West Orange Warriors lacrosse team may have been more
aptly referred as the “Road Warriors” at the beginning of this season with their
first seven games of the year on the road. In fact, the Warriors amassed 501.6
miles on the road, roughly the equivalent of a trip from Winter Garden to New
Orleans.
After surviving the traveling with an unblemished record,
the last thing the Warriors wanted to do was drop their winning streak in their
first home game of the season. Their opponent, Montverde Academy, possessed the
talent to do just that.
However, hustle and maximum effort propelled the Warriors
past their district opponent, downing the Eagles by the score of 15-5.
WO hit the road once again Monday night with a match-up at
rival Olympia. The Warriors were able to overcome a rare bout of turnovers to
eclipse the Titans, 18-3.
The Warriors will begin their only home stand of the season
Wednesday night when they host district foe Lake Minneola, who comes into the
game at 7-1 on the year. The upstart Hawks will look to do their best in
preventing the Warriors’ hopes for a 10-0 start to the season.
Friday night will bring rival Dr. Phillips to town for a big
evening. The WO seniors have never defeated DP and look to make sure that they
are not the first class to go winless against the Panthers. More importantly,
Friday night will also be the evening the Warriors celebrate Yellow Brick Road –
The Holden Flynn Foundation for the second-straight year. A presentation will
be made to YBR at 7pm on the field.
Next Monday will serve as Senior Night, in which the 13
seniors are celebrated for their contributions to the program, in a game
against district opponent Ocoee.
