2015 Season Highlights: 10-Goal Game Duo

Bailey Sarp and Lane Artope reach the 10-goals in a game summit.
There is an old adage in lacrosse:  10 goals is the magic number; if you can keep your opponent under 10 goals you should win, if you score 10 or more goals you should win.  Well, in two instances this season a West Orange attackman has taken care of the scoring 10 goals part.  Bailey Sarp and Lane Artope, both seniors, have reached the 10-goal summit in 2015, a feat that had only been accomplished once before in school history.

The 10-goal performance first occurred in 2010 by senior Dan Crayner in a victory over Freedom High School.  Crayner added two assists to his double-digit goal performance to also set the points-in-a-game record at 12.  In the game this year versus Merritt Island, Lane Artope notched his 10 goals, accompanied by three assists, to set the new standard for points in a game.  [Read more about Lane’s record-setting gamevs. Merritt Island here.]

Sarp’s 10-goal performance occurred against rival Olympia High School in a game that also saw the record for goals scored by the Warriors shattered with a new-high of 26.  The regular-season match-up between district foes was a tight affair heading into halftime with the Warriors holding on to a 9-6 lead.  The Warriors exploded in the second half, scoring 11 goals in the third quarter to take command.  In the third-quarter run, Sarp notched five goals in less than seven minutes.  His 10th score came with over nine minutes left in the game before being pulled.

Heading into this season, the 10-goal achievement had only been reached once in the program’s 22-year history.  Now, three Warriors sit atop the record books holding the mark.  It is truly an accomplishment all three should be proud of.
